Dremel Catapult Design

Dremel Catapult Design

Every year Dremel Tools hosts a North American Sales Conference. Their nationwide team of sales representatives meet for several days with various teams from the corporate office. The goal is to introduce new tools and accessories and how to use them. Part of the conference is a building event in which they gather in teams and must build a project within a time frame (that sometimes doesn’t seem fair.) It’s always a lot of fun and people who otherwise never get hands on experience have the opportunity to get their hands dirty and work with some pretty cool stuff.

So….every year we are approached with an idea for the build project. For the 2011 event, the project was decided to be a catapult. Using only Dremel tools, the teams would compete to see who could launch a small soccer ball the furthest distance….even hit targets. We came up with two different designs to suggest possible options for the build project. The teams had a week to gather ideas and info for their catapults. I supplied renderings of what they would be expected to build. Upon their arrival, the would get to inspect the actual catapults that we had built and then decide on a direction in which to take their own designs.

Descriptions of the progress can be found by clicking on “permalink” below any of the images in the gallery.

    Nice!

I’m now in a personal project trying to build an awesome catapult, these models are going to be a nice start point to me, is possible to get some details about the building process of any of the models?

        Hi RALFEL,

Sorry about the double post, I thought that my first comment was lost because I could not see it when I returned to the page to check if you had answered me.

I think that more pictures will be enough to take a deeper look at the building process and maybe some explanation of how you have done that perfect joints! I’m new on Dremel world.

Of course, layout drawings will be perfect too.

I hope that the catapult will be my first o many projects!

        Thanks for your answer!
