Redwood Shower Stool

Redwood Shower Stool

This was one of those fun projects where you tend to get so absorbed in the progress that you lose track of time! It’s a stool/chair/seat made for a shower or sauna and it’s made of Redwood. The design looks a bit complicated whereas the process is actually rather simple. It uses a technique called wood bending. You basically take a bunch of thin strips of wood and bend them around a form. There’s quite a bit of machining to prepare the wood for bending. You can’t just go to you local Home Depot and pick up 3/16″ x 2″ strips of redwood. In fact, you won’t find anything close to that. Multiple thin strips of redwood area glued together and bent around a form. The pieces are then cut to fit and fastened with stainless steel screws. We initially made one of these, but ended up making quite a few more due to popular demand. Check out the gallery below!
